Invisalign for teens
Orthodontic treatment with teens in mind
Orthodontic treatment is very common among teenagers and we do offer 'invisible' options for teens who are concerned about the effect treatment will have on their appearance.
Is Invisalign suitable for teens?
Invisalign is a popular treatment option among our teenage patients for one obvious reason. The aligners aren’t obvious! With clear plastic aligners straightening their teeth, teens don’t have to feel self-conscious about having orthodontic treatment. What’s more, because the aligners are removable, teens can eat what they like, play sport as usual, and continue to practise and play musical instruments.
Invisalign aligners fit into a teen’s lifestyle, not the other way around. All teens have to do is remember to wear their aligners for 22 hours per day to achieve the very best results from treatment, but this is easy to do because the aligners have blue dot wear indicators on them to help keep track of wear time.
How does Invisalign for teens work?
Invisalign works by guiding teeth gently into position through the use of these clear, plastic aligners. Just like the full version, these sets of aligners are changed every two weeks. They are also removable, allowing your teen to maintain their oral hygiene routine.
What are the benefits of Invisalign for teens?
The teenage years are a good time to receive orthodontic treatment for a number of reasons including:
- A great smile can boost self-confidence in your teen
- Treatment encourages good oral hygiene routines
- Straight teeth contribute to better health
- Jaw is still malleable so results are effective
- Educates your teen on good diet choices
Although Invisalign can be used to treat the majority of cases, in some instances other methods may be preferable. We can talk through your teen’s options with you prior to beginning treatment.
Invisalign FAQs for teens
Will Invisalign impact on my lifestyle?
No, the beauty of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable so you can continue to play sports and musical instruments while receiving treatment.
What happens if my teen loses their aligners?
Invisalign caters for this reality by providing six spare sets of aligners throughout treatment.
Will my teen need further treatment later in life?
Invisalign is just as effective as traditional forms of orthodontic treatment so the result will be straight teeth and a great smile for life. However, as is also the case with traditional metal braces, retention is an essential part of treatment to ensure your teen’s teeth remain in the correct position.
Invisalign aligners are a registered medical device, you should always read and follow the label as well as the instructions of your treating orthodontist.
